    Pre-installation question - package updates

The docs say that before installing cpanel you should have a clean fresh install of the o/s, which is Redhat EL3 ES in this case. Does that mean that I shouldn't run the Redhat Up2Date program to update all of the packages to the latest version before installing cpanel? Does cpanel have it's own updater or something?

    thanks

cpanel will take care of OS updates for you.

    Go on, have a guess
Well, no it doesn't. The overnight upcp job will simply run up2date. You should indeed run up2date before or after loading cPanel but make sure that you have an appropriate pkgskiplist configured in:

    up2date --config
    Option 9

This is the list I use:

    kernel*;php*;httpd*;perl*;mysql*;mod_ssl*;imap*;squirrelmail*;spamassassin*;caching-nameserver*
