Has anyone heard of Ruby? It's some sort of programe or something. The reason I ask is someone wants to know if I would allow it on my server. I don't know it so I aint sure if I should. Is it a safe thing to place on a server or should I stay away?

    Thanks in advance.

    Go on, have a guess
    From the rpm description:
I've only ever seen it used on FreeBSD servers.

Hmmm. I found out afterwards that it is something similar to Php but can be used for illegal stuff such as IRC etc.

Sounds like everything else on a computer (in terms of being used for illegal purposes)

PHP can be used for IRC too. Ruby is the 'next-gen' language and is pure object orientated.

    How old are you?

Seriously, er, IRC isn't "illegal stuff".

Ruby is like any other programming language. Can be used for programming, legal or illegal.

Many of IRC related scripts are in Perl. So running ruby will not be a problem is Cpanel support it in shared hosting environment.

Running IRC is illegal in 80% data centers :)

Ruby, although I have limited experience working with it(I can't be arsed to setup mod_ruby when I'm the only one who wants it), is a wonderful language. If your clients want it...I highly suggest installing it...it's just as good as PHP, imho. It's a very good balance between PHP and JSP when it comes to features vs overhead.
