I have apache 1.3.41 running in a cpanel server with both PHP 4.4.7 and 5.2.5 installed. As per configserver security and firewall recommendation, we should upgrade apache to 2.2 as 1.3.41 is too old. We are not sure if upgrading would affect the working of PHP 4.4.7 in any way. Kindly give your suggestions on this.

If you wish to continue running PHP 4, you will experience the best stability by staying on Apache 1.3. Apache 2.0 and 2.2 do not play well with the older versions of PHP. I recommend if the age of the software is a concern to you, to migrate to PHP 5.2.5 as PHP 4 will become fully deprecated on 8/8/08. The vast majority of PHP 4 scripts will continue to work in a PHP 5 environment with no modification.
