    Hello,

Last night upcp (running as usually from crontab) erased all exim configuration files (/etc/exim.conf, /etc/antvirus.exim and exim.pl) and may be something else. Reading log files I found that problem was caused by inaccessiblity of the CPanel DNSes. See quote of upcp log below.

I was shocked that upcp breaks a working system just because update servers not accessible.

Always backup config files before upcp

The Golden Rule of cpanel upgrades - Always, Always backup key config files of the system before running upcp!

I use subversion to not only backup but keep under version control all critical configuration files on the server, and commit a copy before running upcp.

The important config files to backup are:

    • /etc/exim.conf
    • /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
    • /etc/named.conf
    • /etc/trueuser*
    • /usr/local/cpanel/etc/*
    • ... and all similarly significant files.

I am surprised why cpanel folks dont do such critical system snapshots themselves at the beginning of upcp itself.

In general, never trust an automated configuration/code-generation tool completely. Always cover your ass by taking backups.

This has been corrected in version 18.0 of the exim installer.

Which release of cpanel is 18.0 currently in?

I'm running "Release" and it does not seem to be included in this tree as of yet.
