    Hi all

We'd like to create a page for a domain (eg, https://secure.domainname.com) where people can sign in securely, with the authentication provided only by a self-signed certificate (as in CPanel login via https://yourdomain.com:2083).

We're referring to a subdomain created by a end-user client, not https login for WHM/CPanel.

Can this be done? If so, we'd appreciate any pointers on how to go about setting this up on a CPanel vps.

    Thanks!

First, the site will need to have a dedicated IP. This is a requirement for SSL to work correctly.

When you say "sign in", do you mean some type of web app?

    Hi cpanelben

Yes, the subdomain (https://subname.maindomain.com) has its own dedicated IP (A record), which is different from the dedicated IP for maindomain.com. Can you provide pointers on how to set up the rest?

Yes, it's used as the signin page for a web-based application. Presumably, the procedure to set this up is the same with a real SSL cert, except that none will be installed. Correct?

    Thanks for your input!

Yes, the procedure is the same as a real SSL cert. You will still need to install a cert, but you'll be using a self-signed cert that you've generated. That's the only difference.
