to add the following to /etc/csh.login og /etc/profile:

mail < /dev/null > /dev/null -s "login at `date`" [email protected]

I understand that [email protected] will receive a message with the time someone logged in without the one loggin in being able to see it.

Does anyone else use it?

Thanks
John

Your subject got my attention..... "Security: is it a good idea?" :D

I don't currently use that but I may start to. It seems like a good idea to at least have a log of the user's that have logged in in case something did happen.

I suppose if you're really strict on security, you could be notified when they log in and watch what they're doing the entire time but that gets expensive when you think about how much support and staff time it would take up.

This is a really nice Idea!!!
You can also use
last -i ==> to see who logged in
last command shows the info for the whole Month i.e it starts from 1st of every month.

Hope this helps!
