Separate backups on 2 drives?

Hi,
I have a problem.
I run backup 3 times per week and on the backup drive the free space is 78% but when a backup is running it goes to 95% and backup fails.
Is it possible to separate these backups between 2 drives on the same machine?
Or run pre-backups files on a different drive and then copy the backup ready files on the backup drive?

Thank you!

You mean the occupied (not free) space is 78% => 95%?

That's a pretty high ratio to keep. My rule is less than 50% occupancy at all times. Otherwise, run into all sorts of issues like this.

On AWS EC2 instances, what I normally do is I mount a secondary EBS at /home2, and put accounts in there, so I can increase the HDD sizes separately from the OS/MySQL portion + website files portion.
