Nearly every evening, my box becomes unresponsive. Once in a while I can check the apache status while the box is creeping slow and see clients serving media files to some busy forum sites. I end up having to restart the box and it will eventually give me a repeat once all the clients reconnect.

I have installed the apache bandwidth mod and use it on some clients that use their accounts for media file hosting only and I know it is working...limiting them to 32kb/s and maxconnect of 20.

Is there anything else I can do? It's not fair to all my clients that a few are hosting things that kill the box.

Before you jump to any conclusion, check the errors in the log file: /var/log/messages
It is very hard to say without reading that error file.

The log essentially repeats the same messages day after day.
