I apologize if this is in the wrong section...

For the past while my VPS hangs every so often and I have no idea why. I have contacted my host and they have optimized my databases and tweaked some settings on the server but nothing seems to help. As a result, I think my host has just thrown their hands up because they don't know what else to do.

Here's what happens:

Every so often (it could be a few hours or a few minutes in between occurrences), I'll try to access sites on my server or cpanel, whm, or my ftp. And what happens is that it just hangs for a few minutes then it finally works.

A few times I received a hang:chkservd warning email but most of the time I don't. I suspected it had something to do chkservd so I increased the values in WHM but no luck.

It's not my websites because I've been using the same code forever and it's only the past few weeks where this has been happening (although it has also happened a few times in the past).

So at this point I really don't know what to do. It has to be something with my configuration but I don't know what. Can anyone help out?

Thanks.

Hello :)

Do you notice any error messages in /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log when this happens? The following thread is a good place to start (it's for high loads, but many of the troubleshooting tools should help in your case as well):

Thank you.

I experienced something similar on my dedicated, which turned out to be a hard drive fault in the end.
Might be worth running a few drive checks if you can.
