In my WHM : Service Status shows
Server Load 54.52 (1 cpu) and red icons

    What does this 54.52 mean?

It means the CPU is under a load equivalent to 54 CPU's. The command "top" issued in shell will show you what processes are running and information about them.

To be super precice about it, it means that there are an average of 54 programs waiting for the CPU at any given time. A load average of 5 is fairly high. A load average of 10 is dangerously high if it is not just transient.

A load average of 54 means something is wrong. You need to analyse why your server cannot keep up, and repair or upgrade accordingly.

True. Also the load rating is based on 1 CPU. If it's a dual processor server, it's still pretty high. How dangerous depends on how long it stays like that.

A load like that can be from a runaway script that needs to be stopped, or could be a backup running at the same time as high site activity, or could mean there are too many accounts on the server if it happens regularly.

If you use the command "top" in shell while the load is high, it will tell you why it is so high.
