Newbie to WHM here.

I have just rented a hybrid server and am setting it up for the first time.

I have managed to set up a reseller hosting account to be able to use cpanel and transfer about 50 sites for GoDaddy and Hostgator.

However my name servers have been set to ns1.mainnameserver.com. and ns1.mainnameserver.com. I changed the nameservers with my registrar to these and have been told this is not correct as these are generic nameserver names. He also spoke about pointing the ip address to the nameservers.

So I guess I need some help in this.

what have I missed and can I just choose a nameserver and ip in WHM?

Hello :)

You will need to register your own private name servers if you do not want to use the ones provided by your hosting provider. There is a document on this at:

How to Register Private Nameservers

Then, simply use the "Edit DNS Zone" option in WHM to add the "A" records for your name servers to match what you created at the registrar.

Thank you.
