Hi,

I have 2 servers, dedicated and vps on separate locations. I would like to setup redundant nameservers, and looks like i have to setup dns cluster?

Both servers have websites on it with active accounts.
Dedicated: ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com
Vps ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com

I don't mind getting another separate domain just for this purpose.

Can i use the same domain name for cluster dns ns1.domain.com on one server and ns2.domain.com on the other server?

I was reading some of the docs cPanel DNSOnly® Installation | cPanel & WHM Documentation It looks like i should be installing DNSonly. My question is, can install DNSonly and setup cluster dns while i have active accounts on both servers or do i have to setup this on empty servers first? Is this the right way to setup redundant dns? Or is there other way to achieve this?
Thanks

Hey there! Using the same domain across all the nameservers is just fine. Each "ns.domain.com" you create is really just a subdomain.

DNSOnly is designed to be just that - a stripped-down cPanel tool that only serves DNS content. It doesn't have the ability to host websites or content, and needs to be installed on an empty machine as a new server. You then link the webservers to the DNSOnly systems:

Let me know if that helps!

Hey,

Is there any other way setting up redundant nameservers without using completely separate alone server with DNSOnly ? I guess i'll need sepate cPanel license as well since it's a new server?
