Hello all,

I want to setup a WHM server on AWS with 2 dedicated nameservers. I have installed WHM in server 1.1.1.1 and DNSONLY server in servers 2.2..2.2 and 3.3.3.3

I haven't completed the initial setup in my WHM as well as 2 DNSONLY servers

Since, I'm new to WHM & cPanel, so I've no idea about how to configure the nameservers & DNS record.

I've configured hostnames( in Advance DNS settings ) in my domain registrar to point ns1.domain.tld to 2.2.2.2 and and ns2.domain.tld to 3.3.3.3. my FQDN for WHM server(1.1.1.1) is server.domain.tld.

Please help me with initial setup for DNSONLY servers and WHM serverr

Thanks for your reply!

I've already read the documentation.

I've two DNSONLY servers( ns1, ns2). I don't want to enable DNS server in my WHM( server.domain.TLD)
Instead of that I want to configure ns1 & ns2 as my DNS server in server.domain.TLD

server.domain.tld points to ns1.domain.tld and ns2.domain.tld & I also checked the box to associate A record as well.

Now I don't know how to configure name servers in ns1.domain.TLD & ns2.domain.TLD. Do I have to repeat the same for this servers as I did earlier in server.domain.TLD?

Also, from which server should I enable DNS clustering?

P.S: Sorry for my stupid question & bad English :)

Hello,

You actually only need to configure clustering on the web server using the "WHM >> DNS Cluster" option. Use this option via WHM on your web server to add the NS1 and NS2 DNSONLY servers. You can choose "Synchronize" or "Write-Only" as the DNS role when doing this:

Synchronize — This method synchronizes records between the local server and the remote server.
Write-only
— This method pushes the local server's records to write to the remote server, but does not query records from the remote server to write to the local server.
If you use "Synchronize" instead of "Write-Only" as the DNS roles, then it will prevent the creation of a DNS zone on your other web servers (assuming you add more in the future) if the zone already exists (e.g. Customer on Web Server 1 can't create addondomain123.tld if a customer on Web Server 2 has already created addondomain123.tld).

Also, remember to enable "Setup Reverse Trust Relationship" for each DNSONLY server you add when configuring clustering using the "WHM >> DNS Cluster" option on the web server. If you select this option, you will not need to log in to WHM's DNS Cluster interface on the remote DNSONLY server.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
