    Hi everyone,

About 24hrs ago suddenly we started having mail-related problems in our server, the server is running cPanel 11.15.0-R17853 updating on RELEASE mode on a RHEL4 linux box. I have over 100 e-mail accounts from different users/domains that complain about duplicated e-mails and others that they can't get their mails because it times out. I have looked at /var/log/eim_mainlog, /var/log/exim_rejectlog and /var/log/maillog files but i can't find any error there, apparently these clients pop3 connection isn't even being processed. I have the following courier settings

    Maximum Pop3 Connections (Total) .................................. 60
    Maximum Pop3 Connections Per Ip .................................. 50
    Maximum TLS/SSL Pop3 Connections Per Ip .................. 30
Number of Authentication Daemons ................................. 5

I have the following settings on WHM:

Attempt to prevent pop3 connection floods ...................................................................... on
The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited) ......................... 0
The number of times users are allowed to check their mail using pop3 per hour ..... 0

Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this weird problem? I have also submitted a support ticket with the company that rent us the server but they state they have no idea of what might be happenning.

thanks to all for your help,

    Alex Paes

Did you by chance run /scripts/convert2maildir within the past 24 hours?

Hi David, thanks for the reply,

actually i didn't run that in the last 24hrs because i have converted from mailbox to maildir format some months ago. I'm not sure yet as i'm still waiting for confirmation from our clients, but apparently moving back to cPanel S16999 STABLE has solved this, again note that this is not definite.

    Thanks,

    Alex Paes

That's weird. In any case, if this issue creeps up again, you may wish to submit a support ticket :).

    Hi everyone,

let me start by thanking you all for your replies. Here's the status on this issue at the moment.

The company owning the server (it's a dedicated server and i asked their team for support) performed a regression to cPanel S16999 around 11pm GMT.

The clients said everything had returned to normal around 4am GMT the next day.

Everything seem to be running normally so far.

We can't seem to relate the problem to the cPanel version, apparently some of our clients on different state kept receiving e-mails normally during all day. So at this moment i'm thinking about trying R17853 again to be sure if it was something about the cPanel version or something from the datacenter or ISP, i don't know. If any of you guys have any idea of anything else that could be causing this problem please share it.

Thanks again very much for all the help, if i indeed decide to revert again to R17853 i will keep the thread updated.

    Hi again everyone,

Just to update on this matter, everything seems to have solved itself without apparent reason. Like i said i have gone back to R17853 and everything is working perfectly so far, leaving me completely on the dark about the reasons that messed the system without apparent reason and just as it started it ended.

Anyway, gladly it's working perfect now. Thanks all for the tips although i wasn't able to follow them.

    Best regards,

    Alex Paes
