    hi

i have a client with a domain xyz.com who has created some ftp accounts(folders) for his clients (user1@xyz.com). he wants them to access the ftp server using sftp and is using Filezilla for this. But when the user trys to login via sftp using ssh2, the login information filezilla trys to send to the server is like this -

Connected with ftp.xyz.com:22, initializing SFTP connection...
    Command: CONNECT user1@xyz.com@ftp.xyz.com:22
Error: FzSFtp.exe was closed, terminating connection.
    Error: Unable to connect!

The main ftp account is able to login sucessfully via sftp. How do i have the client's ftp users access their ftp accounts via sftp? Shell access is enabled for this account.

    Thanks
    Sunny

    Go on, have a guess
SFTP uses SSH as a protocol and authenticates against the servers OS user database, i.e. passwd, so knows nothing of FTP users that are stored elsewhere. So, only valid unix user accounts will be able to use SFTP and these will normall be the cPanel account name, as you have found.
