Those are zombie processes, and short of rebooting, not really any way of getting rid of them.

I have known of 4 machines it does this on and all that line does is restart the chcksrvd ... this helps when you see bind restart over and over . Works for me every time. Harmless. I have done it 40 times and it clears the zombies. Annette ... use PayPal? :)it restarts teh deamon that checks the services.

    I like to do :
    tail -f /var/log/chkservd.log

and watch when it starts and checks things as well.

Hello, i tried it but it got stuck on restarting interchange, i had disabled interchange by setting dir to read only, tried killing interchange instruction else where on forum which also killed sh defunt entries.

Then tried your suggestion but it stalled at

    Service check ....
    Restarting interchange ....
    system: /usr/local/cpanel/bin/startinterchange
    Load service,
    Load service, apache
    Load service, exim
    Load service, mysql
    Load service, proftpd
    Load service, cppop
    Service check ....

cheque is in the post :)

Heck, far be it for me to turn down money from anyone. :)

This routine has yet to work on any of the servers we have, unfortunately. I\'m glad it works for somebody.
