Is it possible to create a cron in a single account for a backup exclusive to a directory? Say /public_html only?

tar should preserve ownerships and permissions.

Why not just run /scripts/pkgacct username - Nightly - If its not an issue backing up the entire account. It will be placed in /home/cpmove-username.tar.gz.

Also, you can always do cp -Rp /home/username/public_html /rsync/bak/ (whatever your backup folder is)

the -R flag will call all files in cp, and the -p will cover all permissions.

We want to have a single directory tar'd for the user account. I will probably just run it out of a main cron. I was looking for a cron from the user account's cpanel.
