    Hi all,

I am about to attempt migrating 8 websites from a VPS server (with root access) to my dedicated server. My VPS runs Plesk/Virtuozzo with Qmail and my DS is runnung cPanel/WHM and Exim.

So I need some advise regarding a solid migration plan taking into consideration the following requirements.

    Data migration:
All releated files i.e. html, php pages and associated images and directories.
    All MySQL databases.
All email messages including POP, IMAP, SMTP and webmail.

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    ozmo

In WHM under transfers there are options to copy accounts from other servers (including those running other control panels) for you.

It copies the entire lot, files, DB's (users too) and mail :)

    Hope this helps.

Unfortunately the transfer method does not support Plesk versions greater than version 6.x

Damn.... That would be a perfect way to do it.

    :(

I have transfered a couple of Plesk 8.x servers recently using the transfer tool in WHM ...

Even though it says "6.x" on the tool, looks like it actually works with Plesk 8.x too! ;)

Thanks for the advise. I did actually hire a well know server management company who have done a fine job... however I am not sure if they outsource to India or they hire a lot of foreigners based in the US. Anyhow they have also told me (via very broken english) that the migration from a server running Plesk 8.1 and Qmail to a server running cPanel / WHM and Exim will not work. I would need to do it all manually. So in hindsight, I wish I had used PSM. Anyhow I am happy with the cPanel's transfer option so far.

I just need to figure out how to create client (owner) accounts within WHM to allow clients with multiple domains to access all their domains via one portal as opposed to individually logging into each seperately. Any ideas with this? Are clients with more than one domain classed as Resellers?

    Thanks for any info.

A shared account can hold a number of domains, I believe its the addon domain option. It just depends, a reseller account could be able to create shared accounts and sometimes reseller accounts as well, depending if you have overselling enabled for the reseller customer. Just create an account and select the option let them own the account.

You should try getting in touch with PSM they will do that for you on your server, as well as secure it and everything else.
