    Hello,

We've got a sites log (in domlog) that has hit the 2 gig mark. Site is still functioning but of course apache is going a tad nuts over this log size. What's the proper way to rotate this log (manually) to get things going again? We're used to just mv'ing the log and then issuing a graceful to apache but not sure if this will "bork" cpanel/whm.

    Thanks,

    Frank

    It shouldn't be 'bork' WHM/cPanel.

However if you are afraid that things will go wrong, I would suggest stop apache first (service httpd stop), move the domain log file to another name and then start apache up again (service httpd start).

Has anyone come up with a fool-proof way to be able to keep stats AND rotate logs to prevent this problem? I just had a client tell me their stats had stopped, and sure enough it was at 2 gigs.

You can write and insert a directive in the log conf file to rotate these huge files.

Rotate yes. Rotate them and keep the stats accurate - no. As far as I know, there is no way to do both of those at the same time, or to have the stats programs read from both the original file and the rotated one at the same time when compiling stats.

    hey guys

Please look here is a bugzilla enhancement I opened with cpanel.
    http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/show_bug.cgi?id=3153

Please vote for it so we can get this fixed, it really becomes a nasty issue near the end of the month when the logs grow to over 2 gig.

It would be nice if we could specify the rotation date/time. E.g. rotate the domlogs at the end of each week. And also keep a copy in the users home directory etc.

Please add comments to the bugzilla entry.

Im using TRUSTIX and have the 2 gig file issue, what OSes are you guys using ?

    Cheers
    Andy
