    Hello,

I have a customer that is having problems with one of his servers, and I'm stumped on what is going on. The server isn't being over used at all - I believe there are just 3 small sites on the server at this time.

The server becomes frequently inacessible, in a sense:
    1) ssh authentication fails, and the root password will be rejected.
    2) domains inaccessible, just times out.
    3) After 15-30 minutes everything will be back to normal

We could not find anything that was suspecious on the server, no routing/network issues, as well as the traceroute the client provided looks fine.

Any ideas on what could be the reason?

    I'm stumped.

Have you determined that DNS is ok during this time. Do you actually see anything on those servers including using TELNET to get to some of the ports like 21, 25, 110, etc.. to see if they respond at all.

Yes, everything has been connecting fine otherwise.

When it goes down, I get the Not configured for this address error.

I'm not sure if bind just keeps on restarting or what. nameservers ping fine as well.

Have the guy run a dns report at www.dnsreport.com to see if he has any weird stuff. Sometimes a dead tertiary dns server or one thats not updated wil answer with bogus/old info.

Let us know what the report for that domain shows.
