Hi

I was wondering what are the top things to look for when your sites on a server start slowing down when loading.

Got a forum running with mysql on one of them which is the main one slow loading.

Thanks

If this is for a cpanel account or VPS, you are pretty much at the mercy
of the provider.
For a dedicated server, I would check/monitor

Traffic
processes
ram / pagefile usage

Either not enough RAM, or you're hammering your disks.

99% of people's problems with server load can be solved by:

a) Not buying cheap IDE servers and running huge backups on them
b) Running with 1Gb+ RAM
c) Setting things up to run at different times - like don't run stats in the middle of the day, etc

:)

Any hacks or mods on the forum? What forum software are you using?

I just spent a few days cleaning up a VB forum (new customer) with loads of hacks and an out of date flashchat running several chatbots. The forum was slowing down the entire server by eating RAM and spiking the CPU.
