    Hi,

For some reason I am getting failures on open relay tests for the above reason.

I check the hostname in WHM and it is srv1.example.com yet in the SMTP banner it is srv1.

    My rdns is srv1.example.com.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Tom

Generally open relay is not allowed on mail server. It is not best practice to allow open relay as spams may be relayed through your server. You can test rDNS with many online tools and confirm if your server IP resolve to hostname.

    Hello :)

There are some websites that issue false positives when it comes to determining if your server allows open relay. Feel free to open a ticket with our support department and we can confirm this for you:

    Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. Just FYI, I am not concerned about having an open relay as I dont have one. The issue I have is that the SMTP header does not match my hostname.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Where are you seeing this mismatch? You've noted it shows the SMTP header not matching the hostname, but what is showing this incorrect SMTP header?

    Hi Tom,

There is indeed an open internal case (Case 51200) regarding some services not being restarted when "WHM -> Change Hostname" is performed. This results in those services still maintaining the old/previous hostname. One of the services explicitly cited in the case is indeed Exim.

If this is the situation you're running into, it's readily able to be resolved simply by restarting Exim so that it reads in the proper/current hostname:

    Code:
    /scripts/restartsrv_exim

(or WHM -> Restart Services -> Mail Server (Exim))

If this fails to resolve this issue, then the case may not be related and I would encourage you to post a ticket. See my signature for details on opening a ticket.
