    Hello

    This problem usually occurs when CSF ( Config Server Firewall ) is installed on your server and it is interacting with the working of squirrel mail. So while configuring CSF enable both SMTP_BLOCK & SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL . Enabling just SMTP_BLOCK can cause this issue.

    $ vi /etc/csf/csf.conf
    set
    SMTP_BLOCK = '0'
    save and exit
    restart csf.
    This will fix.

    Instead of setting SMTP_BLOCK="0", I set SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL="1".

    Is this safe?

    Regards!

    SMTP Error while using CSF and the CSF options SMTP_BLOCK and SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL

    When the option "SMTP_BLOCK" is enabled it is then required to enable the option "SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL" to allow the cPanel hosted Webmail programs to send e-mail; this includes Horde, SquirrelMail, and RoundCube, when accessed via cPanel Webmail. If the option "SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL" is disabled but the option "SMTP_BLOCK" is enabled then it will break the ability for the aforementioned cPanel hosted Webmail programs to send e-mail.

    Please note that, due to the similar nature in how they function, the CSF option "SMTP_BLOCK" conflicts with the SMTP Tweak feature in the Security Center of WHM; additionally, only one of the two features should be enabled at any given time, and they both should not be active simultaneously.

    As CSF is a third-party product I recommend referring to the vendor web site for official support and clarification on usage of specific options:
