    Hi Guys,

I would like to have my sites in one cpanel server and the email smtp server in another cpanel server

I use a lot of email marketing and sometimes it lock down my server.

So I bought a reseller cpanel account at hostgator and I will move all my sites there. But I would like to keep using my other cpanel on Hivelocity just to send emails.

    Is that something possible?

    Thanks

Will it work if I only change the MX entry to the smtp server that I wanted to use ?

    Thanks

    Hello :)

Yes, this is possible. You would simply adjust the MX records at the DNS host of the domain name. Documentation on how to complete this via cPanel/WHM can be found at:

    Edit MX Records via cPanel
    Edit MX Records via WHM

You may also want to to adjust the DNS entry for "mail" in the DNS Zone of the domain name so it's an "A" record pointing to the IP address of the mail server.

    Thank you.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I think I got how to do it. But first I will need to change the name server.

Because I have 2 servers.. and they have the same dns nameserver. Do you know where I change it ?

    Thanks

You will need to ensure the "A" record for "mail.yourdomain.com" is pointed to the IP address of the server that is configured to handle email for your domain name. Then, in your email client, ensure the mail server name is set to "mail.yourdomain.com".

    Thank you.
