I have moved a clients website over to new server and he started receiving errors in outlook:

image001.jpg

So i went to mxtoolbox.com and ran an SMTP test on the domain, and this comes back:

11.544 seconds - Not good! on Transaction Time

Looks to me like they could be related, not very experienced with the email side of things, can anyone advise on how to diagnose this and get to the bottom of it?

Hello :)

Do you notice any errors in /var/log/maillog when you encounter this error message? Also, what's the server load at the time of the error?

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Michael.

Server load time is not an issue, this is an upgraded server with few accounts, almost no load what so ever, it's extremely fast compared to the old server i used and this issue wasn't there.

I've checked the logs, can't see anything untoward just the occasional:

Feb 25 10:41:24 amber imapd-ssl: couriertls: read: Connection timed out
Feb 25 10:41:24 amber imapd-ssl: DISCONNECTED, [email protected], ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx], headers=0, body=377666, rcvd=90767, sent=429033, time=2486, starttls=1

Feb 25 10:24:43 amber imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx]
Feb 25 10:24:43 amber imapd-ssl: LOGIN, [email protected], ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx], port=[49309], protocol=IMAP
Feb 25 10:24:44 amber imapd-ssl: couriertls: read: Connection reset by peer
Feb 25 10:24:44 amber imapd-ssl: DISCONNECTED, [email protected], ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx], headers=0, body=0, rcvd=104, sent=418, time=1, starttls=1
Feb 25 10:25:00 amber imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx]
Feb 25 10:25:00 amber imapd-ssl: LOGIN, [email protected], ip=[::ffff:86.1.xx.xx], port=[49311], protocol=IMAP

This is the user that is reporting the issue with outlook disconnect.

I have received another support request, different client, same complaint: email

This client said some users haven't received any emails today and some are coming through with delay.

I've checked the log and there isn't much on there either except the occasional:

Feb 24 04:17:55 amber authdaemond: Cpanel::MailAuth: cphulk blocked login for user '[email protected]' to access service 'mail' from IP '58.114.xx.xx'

Hello :)

Try increasing the following value in "WHM Home » Service Configuration » Mailserver Configuration":

"Number of Authentication Daemons"

Let us know if that makes a difference.

Thank you.

The last client response was easily fixed, he was using the wrong IMAP settings.

The second support from @domain.co.uk are still saying they are not receiving emails, i setup an account for myself under their domain and added it to outlook, i then sent lots of emails to it and from it to various accounts and all went through OK, leading me to believe it's a problem at their end, i have instructed them to double check their configuration.
