I've been running my cpanel server for years without issue, but I've just mistakenly deleted a file from my public_html/api folder. So I went into my incremental daily backup at /backup to move it back only to find out that although the directory /api is there, it's empty, whereas the live public_html/api directory has many files in it. It turns out that another directory that's full of files is also empty in the backup, /app. It's also empty in the weekly and monthly backups, though the directories, and subdirectories are there, but also empty.

The directories are less than a month old, but more than a week old.

    I checked the cpbackup-exclude.conf and it's blank.

Any ideas why the files aren't showing up?
Any ideas how to get the backup to back them up properly?

    Thanks!

Do you have any of the experimental features in WHM > Backup > Configure Backup checked? There were some cases about issues with incremental backups in conjunction with using the experimental options.

    Thanks to both of you!

Minosjl: I checked the logs and there is an error! Though I don't know what to do to fix it. It has this same error in every homedir. So this is likely a problem across all websites, not just the one I noticed it in:

    Copying homedir.............
    Skipping .cpanel/caches
/bin/gtar: /var/cpanel/safesync/synclist.505.work.WF67mzW0bW1rpqJ3: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
/bin/gtar: This does not look like a tar archive
/bin/gtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
    Done

Do you think that would cause the problem? How to fix?

Tristan: Yes, the following was enabled:
EXPERIMENTAL: Enable use of optimized account backup tool.

I have now disabled it. I'm thinking that was enabled during an update since I wouldn't have done that myself. Here's hoping that fixes it!

Is there some way to get WHM to backup the server everyday and leave a daily copy for 7 days? I've just run into the case where I made changes a few days ago, but then someone overwrote them just before the daily backup this morning. So they aren't in the weekly, and the daily only contains the new code, so my code seems to be lost forever... sad.

Ideally the backup would be daily/m, t, w, t, f, s, s, weekly, monthly, so there would actually be 9 backups of the server kept.

    Thanks!

    hi,

can you run the backup command for taking a single account. /scripts/pkgacct username and check the error occurs. Your update is much appreciated.

Disabling the experimental optimized account backup seems to have worked. The api directory is now full of all the files it should have.

    Thanks for your help!
