I set up a few email addresses under Cpanel, and sometimes the mail will simply not go through.

For example if I send an email from my yahoo or gmail address to wrighteq@mydomain.com then it will go through. But, when I signed up for a forum or other online accounts under my wrighteq@mydomain.com address, then the messages from those places just don't go through. SpamAssassin and box trap are currently turned off. Does anyone know what could be the cause?

Also, how do I set it so that all outgoing mail will only show my domain's ip, and not the IP of the computer that I am using.

    Thanks

Set the default address as the username of the account.

It is a common mistake and most people don't realize that the "master" email account
that is automatically created with the Cpanel account DOES NOT go to the domain
used on the account but rather the server hostname itself.

In example, take the following information:
    Code:
    Server Hostname: server.myhost.com

    User's Account Domain: mydomain.com
    User's Main Cpanel Login: fred

With the above information, a master email account would show up in the
control panel with the name "fred but what is the email address?

Most people would assume "fred@mydomain.com" but they would be WRONG!

The email for that account is actually "fred@server.myhost.com" !!!!!

This is the reason why you see people constantly complaining that they can send mail
from the master account but not receive any email. The reason they can't receive
mail is because those people aren't sending mail to the correct email address!

One way to adapt to this Cpanel issue is to set the "master" email account as the
default address for the domain but that is really only a band aid because people
are still unknowingly sending and receiving from the wrong email address.

With the default in the above example going to "fred" then mail sent to
"fred@mydomain.com" would be delivered but it's really a long way around:

    Code:
    Incoming Mail  ->  fred@mydomain.com   (doesn't exist)
    fred@mydomain.com -> fred@server.myhost.com   (forwarded to default)

Because of this very issue that is often a point of great confusion for many people,
I routinely advise my customers to NEVER use the "master" mailbox that
is setup automatically by Cpanel and pretend it doesn't exist since that mailbox
is not even actually using the user's domain name anyway.

If the user wants to have an email address with the same login as their Cpanel login
except really at their domain, I often advise they create the email account themselves
instead of using the master account.

In the above example, if the user "fred" were to ignore the master account and go ahead
and create a separate email account named "fred", it would have the correct email address
of "fred@mydomain.com" while the original master "fred" would be fred@server.myhost.com

I hope this clears up a lot of the confusion about master email accounts

Generally, I think it's a lot better for people to disregard the master account and not use it.

You make a very valid point, however this issue is effecting all of my accounts, not only the main one.
