How much memory does the VPS happen to have?

    Code:
    free -m
This could be failing due to fastestmirror having insufficient memory. You can move that plugin, although having sufficient memory would be better:

    Code:
    mv /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf.bak
    Thanks!
