spam issues?

my work has about 5 simalar domain names and when checking the emails in the morning we get about 800 of just crap now we would normally just enable spam assasin but that would mean our clients having to be whitelisted and get pesterd with the reply if your not a bot crap

i was wondering if i just enable spam box on all the email accounts will this just put all the crap in the spam box?

i want it so that every 4 or 5 days the spam box is automatically emptyied as well?

Spamassassin does not use the whitelist, it only labels mail that meets certain criteria as spam and rewrites the subject to include [spam].

this will probably enable you to drop 50% of your known spam into a bulk folder for deletion. Some spam will still get through but it will be less.

Also note that spamassassin does not delete any mail unless you tell it to.

We seem to have a huge problem with spam on our server, customer's are complaining, and i'm not sure what todo. As far as I understand, spam assasin is enabled by default on cPanel servers, yet I personally still get about 20 spam mails through each day.

I tried working with box trapper, but it seems to have increased the server load by 1 for each mailbox on the server (I only tested it with 5 accounts), and too many valid emails never reached their recipients.

So, is there a better way to see if spam assasin, and the other spam filters are actually on, and if so, how do i stop all the spam from still coming in?

There are so many ways to deal with spam, but we use Mailscanner (www.mailscanner.info) with spam assasin and clamav to control the spam and virus.

Mailscanner comes with lots of configuration you can tweak the way you want

its does give some load to the server but it should be fine if your email traffic is less then around 1000/day
