spam to exisitng e-mailaccounts on server

We received today the following message on many accounts sent to username@domain.com

How do these spammers know the username for each domain. Is this a bug?

    Addition:

Also other non-main account addresses that exist have been sent SPAM. Not the usual info@ guessing stuff, but it seems the spammers can see what addresses do exist and which not.
