Spam white not working

I have continuously 'white listed' addresses to no avail. Especially financial institutions, my banks and utilities for example, but they still get marked as spam.

Why can't I change the spam level to below 4 ? Just 'who' or what is restricting this? I never like 'filters' simply because they don't work correctly and it's MY choice that I want to see all mail!
Going back & forth from my e-mail client (Thunderbird) to the web site is really annoying.

I am sorry to hear this is taking place, but I will do my best to help you. In some cases, it is possible for the hosting provider to set up SpamAssassin rules or filters that take precedence over any settings made in cPanel. Do you have access to WHM to check some of the system filters or Exim configurations? If so, please let me know and I may be able to make further suggestions. If you can access WHM as root, we should be able to help you ensure whitelisting is working normally.

Secondly, are you able to set the "Spam Threshold Score" inside of cPanel's "Spam Filters" to a value between 8-10? For Apache SpamAssassin, the higher the threshold score the more passive SpamAssassin will behave. For example, with a score of 4 SpamAssassin will be more on the aggressive side, but with a setting of 10 it will only mark spam that is extremely obvious.

I was under the impression that, 'lower' the number, the less restrictive it would be. Logically speaking.

Ok, where is that setting, I tried 3 times to find it, but couldn't. I don't see a "Spam Filters" under 'Preferences'. I'm running horde v5.2.22 Was something changed since I was able to find it before?

The option mentioned by @cPJeremy can be found in cpanel > home> email > Spam filters> Automatically Delete New Spam (auto-delete)> configure auto-delete settings. Remember that the lower the score in the spam filter will be the more aggressive, by default the spam filter is set to 5

Additionally if you do not have access to WHM and only cPanel has, it is best to ask your provider why yourbank.tdl emails are being filtered by the server and he will tell you exactly why. You can also search for yourself why the emails are being filtered by accessing: cpanel> home> email> track delivery

Since SpamAssassin scores mail on the liklihood of it being spam a 1 being almost definitely not spam and a 10 being almost certainly spam, the lower the score you allow the more restrictive it is.

While I am sorry that you did not receive a response until now, I do want to point out that there is no guarantee of a response in the community forums. If you need assistance immediately I would advise you to contact your hosting provider or open a ticket.

Apparently you only have access to the email interface either Horde or Roundcube, the option where you can find the individual or global email filter settings is cPanel and you can access this by entering: https://yourdomain.tdl/cpanel or https://yourdomain.tdl:2083

There you put the username and password with that access and you can configure the email filters either individual or global, likewise there you can see why these emails are filtered, please request access to your current service provider.

So something was changed thru some update for their site.

But, none of that addresses the fact the 'Whitelist' rarely works. It seems (from the same institution) that some emails get thru, others do not.

FWIW, I put the domain name in both of those addresses and both just timed out.

I understand what you mean by the account's whitelist, this is found in mail> filters, where you add each email address separately, 1 address for each line. You can also access the same interface from gear icon> options> mail

Likewise, you can add filtering rules through the same interface but only for that specific account.

The most advisable thing is to add the domain completely to the whitelist of the cPanel account from the place that we indicated previously, the way to add it to the whitelist is as follows:

*@yourbank.tdl

in this way all the corresponding emails from your bank will be received without being filtered or marked as spam.

** IMPORTANT: if the emails are added to the server's white list, the only way to be filtered is through rules that eliminate the emails or if the domain of your bank is blacklisted since the RBLs have priority over the filters Spam for each account.
