When a user tries to enable spamassassin the following error message is displayed:

Attempting to enable Spam Assassin ......

    opendir(/usr/bin//..): Permission denied at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/FindBin.pm line 162
    opendir(/usr/bin//..): Permission denied at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/FindBin.pm line 163

    Spam Assassin is currently: enabled

Any email sent to the account is returned with the following error message:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software (Exim).

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    username@domain.com

The following text was generated during the delivery attempt:

    ------ username@domain.com ------

    opendir(/usr/bin//..): Permission denied at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/FindBin.pm line 162
    opendir(/usr/bin//..): Permission denied at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/FindBin.pm line 163

------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------

Any ideas on how to fix this?
