SpamAssassin set at -3.5. Hundreds of spam emails making it through every day.

I have set Spam Assassin at -3.5, against the suggestion by my hosting service that its too aggressive. I am still getting hundreds of Spam emails into my inbox - likely 5x or 6x the number that are getting routed into my Spam box. I am ready to move to another service that doesn't use SpamAssassin. Any last ideas on how I can make SpamAssassin actually work?

Hello :)

Do you have root access to this server? If so, you can review some of the options on the following document that help prevent SPAM:

Exim Configuration Editor

Thank you.

Have you turned on your RBLs ?
Thanks for chiming in. I guess as a customer of my hosting provider, I do not have access to some of the configuration tools like RBL's. For configuring SpamAssassin, I have the option to whilelist_from and blacklist)from criteria, set the scoring thresholds, and assign scores to a given test. That's all I see in my configuration dashboard. Am I missing something?

You can not alter the RBL settings without root access. I suggest reporting the issue to your hosting provider so they can make some adjustments to help prevent SPAM.

Thank you.

Unfortunately my hosting provider has said they are no longer supporting "Web Hosting" customers and are focusing on streaming media clients. I have asked them for help but have gotten nowhere. Maybe that's the problem but I thought I would check anyway. Would anyone like to suggest a good web hosting provider? I have a small number of clients (10-20) that I would bring with me. Had a call with BlueHost (they are also a cPanel customer I believe) and they come recommended. Suggestions are welcomed.

You will likely find more reviews and user input on web hosting companies on a forum such as WebHostingTalk.

Thank you.
