spamd on my server has been failing for days, i tried stopping the service but it still keeps happening. Any ideas why this would be happening, it started suddenly a few days ago

Same here...disabled it altogether and it still reports it as a failed service. Any thoughts?

When you did /scripts/perlinstaller --force Mail::SpamAssassin did the install finish or did you get any error messages related to an md5 checksum on a perl mod dependency?

I am having the same issue here:

I have done a fresh install of RH9 and cPanel/WHM and for the last few days all I get is this happen in /var/log/chkservd.log :

    [Sat Feb 12 15:10:52 2005] Service check ....apache [+]...bind [+]...clamd [+]...cppop [+]...cpsrvd [+]...exim [+]...eximstats [+]...ftpd [+]...imap [+]...mysql [+]...spamd [-Restarting spamd....
    ]...syslogd [+]...Done
    [Sat Feb 12 15:19:16 2005] Service check ....apache [+]...bind [+]...clamd [+]...cppop [+]...cpsrvd [+]...exim [+]...eximstats [+]...ftpd [+]...imap [+]...mysql [+]...spamd [-Restarting spamd....
    ]...syslogd [+]...Done

This happens non stop. I can restart it but if fails. I have done the following:

    /scripts/upcp --force
    /scripts/perlinstaller --force Mail::SpamAssassin
    /scripts/fixspamassassinfailedupdate
    /scripts/updatenow
    /scripts/installspam --force

All the above work fine but the service keeps failing.

The server is not being over tasked so it is not restarting because of that.

Did I open a ticket yes but was told it restarted fine (which I know it did but it fails if you wait 8 minutes).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have the same problem.
Spamd just keeps failing. It seems to break all my mailman lists.
I searched this forum, and have tried the various suggestions, including reinstalling mailman, spamd, restarting exim, etc.
I even created a new list, to see if it would work...nope.
The mail is getting delivered by exim, but nothing from mailman.
    Any suggestions?

Has anyone ever found a permanent solution to this problem? Uninstalling SpamAssasin was my "fix" in May, but I still have the same exact problem I had in May when I reinstall SA. Any help is appreciated.

We are seeing a similar thing on one of our Cpanel servers, but only intermittantly:confused:

Getting a notification probably once every twelve hours to say that spamd has failed, however it restarts itself successfully. I had immediately attributed it us having socketized spamd earlier this week, however if others are seeing it too, then I wonder if its a bug in the latest current builds? Only seemed to appear from about C-43.

Also having the same problem. I tried the perlinstaller --force approach, from above, but it didn't change anything.

Is there a config file that I could use to restrict cpu usage? It tends to jump to 99% whenever someone checks email, and causes apache to crawl during that time. I'd rather it worked the other way around - apache gets priority over spamd.

spri at r-fx.org will fix the priorities of the processes and you can set Spamd to LOW priority if you like.

My issue is the same here - spamd creates heavy load on the system.
I have a pretty active mail server so maybe it's just that it has reached its limit...

Will try to remove spamassasin from a few heavy acocunts and see if it will help.
