    Hi,

    same here. Started this morning.

I have been trying to find the cat, and it's not been easy so far. Eximup doesn't solve it, so don't waste your time with it.

Disabled Clam AV in the exim config to try to see if it was from it, but it isn't (did this because some threads mentioned clamav). Altough the logs clearly specify spamd(spamassassin).

Disabled Spam Assassin in the exim config and have been ok so far... will try to check why this is happening and will let you guys now as soon as I find it. At least my clients can send and receive emails.

Just a question to discard things....i have rvskin spam solution installed on these servers, wondering if you have this rvsking solution installed also to see if that could be the cause?, in fact only the servers with the rvsking spam solution is where we are having this problem.

Hi, yes I do have the rvskin although I installed it myself. All the steps seem simple enough and had been working for the last two years. Have another server with no issue.

But I have been in the logs, and I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but I started having trouble after last night upcp. 16 minutes later, although nothing was updated exim or mail wise.

I still can't put my finger on it... I never had a load issue on the server since this morning, and didn't added anything new to it. Been running the same for the last 645 days...

I've come across a couple of threads on changing a couple of things in spam assassin, but none of them seem a solid fix. It has been a strange day... this exim issue and a DDos. At least I'm not bored and everything seems to be calming down.

I'm going to wait to the night time to do a full upcp just in case.

If I get any news I'll let you guys know.

Just had it again. There seem to be a problem with the socket... It just dies and spamd tries to use and the only thing we get is a timeout.... any ideas?

The quick fix is to disable spamassassin in the exim config file for now!

Make sure you are really ok. I tried that already and no luck!

Sometimes it can take one hour for the issue to come up again. Keep checking your server.

I seem to have resolved this on my server by upgrading Perl to 5.8.8. I am still monitoring to see if the problem returns, but looks OK so far.

It is definitely related to something in the rv config. It is only affecting those servers of mine.

    Hi guys,

after looking into /var/log/maillog, I stumbled upon loads and loads of spamassassin errors about malformed rules...

I totally forgot to check that log file, I thought SA would send errors to exim_mainlog. Had even tried the lint and had no errors, so please check your maillog file!

So I'm trying to use the new rules update method sa-update and so far it's working great. It's simple, just delete all the rules files you have in /etc/mail/spamassassin and run

    /usr/bin/sa-update --nogpg --channel saupdates.openprotect.com

The rules will now be in /var/lib/spamassassin.

Also change your cronjobs to run the sa-update instead of rules_du_jour.

So far I'm clear of any issue... hope to keep it that way! Except a huge load (50,60) when doing a upcp --force, but that its another story!

Let me know if it's working with you guys!

    Edit:
    just found this thread...
    http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=65838
Apparently we also need to update Perl to 5.8.8

Hope all of this helps! Keep posting if that sorted it!

That essentially looks like what I wrote above. :) No worky here though.

Running a tail on maillog while performing a /scripts/restartsrv_spamd results in:
