As soon as I restart exim, spamd and it's child processes eat 9% of available memory each !

    Mem%
    root 26476 0.6 8.6 95296 89620 ? S 19:58 0:04 /usr/bin/spamd -d --allowed-ips=127.0.0.1 --pidfile=/var
    root 26515 0.5 9.0 99360 93900 ? S 19:58 0:03 \_ spamd child
    root 26516 0.4 9.0 99356 93896 ? S 19:58 0:03 \_ spamd child
    root 26517 0.5 9.0 99564 94064 ? S 19:58 0:03 \_ spamd child
    root 26518 0.5 9.0 99352 93892 ? S 19:58 0:03 \_ spamd child
    root 26519 0.4 9.1 99936 94432 ? S 19:58 0:02 \_ spamd child

My mail traffic is quite low ... How can we setup spamd so that its memory footprint be lower !

(I tried to launch spamassassin with the -L option, as recommended somewhere, but the here problem is different)

    Thanks for your help

    Alain

Had the same problem. Also getting load above 100 because of hundreds of spamd childs - server crashing every two days.

    Disabled SpamAssassin and installed Exim+Exiscan+Clamav+RBL+Spamassassin+SARE+Razor+DCC:

Server load is bellow 0.5 and no crashes eversince.

No. You can use MailScanner+ClamAV, ExiScan+ClamAV or ClamConnector (CPANEL) but you can only use one, so you need to choose.

Also, there is a new addon module that allows you to set certain parameters for SPAMD. If you are having load issues and you don't want to switch, try playing with the SPAMD settings.
