SPF / DKIM on remote domain

Could someone please point me in the right direction.

I have a few clients whose websites are hosted on a remote server not controlled by us. We just deal with their email. The remote server is just pointing the domains MX records at our server.

Now we want to configure SPF / DKIM records for the clients, but get the obvious error message, ' not the authoritative server ' etc etc.

I can create the SPF / DKIM records on our server. My question is. Do I then send these to the remote host, so that they can enter them at their end. Or do I need to do something else.

I know its a basic question, but I just to be correct in what I am doing.

Yes, the DNS zone is hosted there so that's where the SPF / DKIM records must be.
