Split delivery with Google Workspace - Legacy server not receiving emails

My goal is to have users in Google Workspace get emails as well as users who are not a part of Google Workspace.

I have been in contact with the Google support team, and they helped me successfully set up the split delivery rule that points to the legacy server.

However, when I try sending the email to a user which is not present on Google's server, I get this bounce-back message:

Your message couldn't be delivered to [email protected] because the remote server is misconfigured. See technical details below for more information.
The response from the remote server was:
550 Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. mail-pj1-f69.google.com [209.85.216.69]:61368 is not permitted to relay through this server without authentication.

I did some digging, and I think that the problem is in the Email Routing in cPanel. When I configure the settings to "Local mail exchanger" instead of "Remote mail exchanger", the email gets delivered. Nevertheless, in that case, the user outside of Google Workspace can not successfully send an email to a Google Workspace user. This is the bounce back:

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

LMTP error after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>: 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]> User doesn't exist:
[email protected]

In addition to this, I also noticed that when I set the mail exchanger to Local, after some time (less than 24 hours) it automatically switches back to Remote.

Any suggestions or ideas are much appreciated

Hey there! While it's a bit older, do any of the details here help?

This is some more recent discussion, but I'm not sure how much would apply to your particular situation:

Hello There, I'm really new to this whole split delivery thing and I've been on it for over 24 hours now.

So this is my case

I recently signed up for Google Workspace (formerly GSuite), However, I only want 1 of my email accounts to be handled by Google Workspace i.e ([email protected]). The rest of the email accounts are on my Host. I successfully configured Split delivery, or atleast I had an 80% success rate. The only issue is that, I cannot send emails from accounts that aren't on Google Workspace to the one that is.

For example, I have an account ([email protected]), which is not on Google Workspace and another one ([email protected]) which is also not on Workspace. These 2 emails can communicate with each other Just fine. And they can also receive emails from ([email protected]) which is on Google Workspace. But they can't send back emails to the account that is on Google Workspace.

So here is a summary

EXAMPLE EMAIL ACCOUNTS

[email protected] (Google Workspace Email)
________________________________________________________

[email protected] (Not on Google Workspace)
[email protected] (Not on Google Workspace)

_________________________________________________________

[email protected] CAN SEND TO [email protected]
[email protected] CAN SEND TO [email protected]

BUT

[email protected] OR [email protected] CANNOT SEND TO [email protected]

How can I solve this?
I've read this, But I don't seem to understand the steps, perhaps because it is now deprecated

Hey there! I'm not sure if I personally have any answers on this issue. The split delivery, from my understanding on the cPanel side, is deprecated by Google and only entire domains can get routed through the Smarthost.

Ohh, I see. So the split delivery option doesn't work anymore ?

I was referencing that older thread you linked and found this:

and that support article is no longer active. From the more general area here:

I'm not seeing an exact match at this time either.
