    Hello,

    I have a customer who informed me he cannot create sub folders in Squirrel mail, this seems to be true.

    I create a folder all went well. Now I try to create a sub folder and i get this:

    ERROR : Could not complete request.
    Query: CREATE "INBOX/folder/sub_folder"
    Reason Given: CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox node /home/cpanel_account/mail/domainname.com/email_account/INBOX/folder/: File exists

    I did a bunch of searches on squirrel mail but could not find much so far :(

    Any ideas would be great :)

    well.. here is the conclusion:
    =========================
    1. i tried to create a new folder named "test". The folder was created.
    2. i tried to create a folder under this folder test. It failed ! This might be because:
    =========================
    the folder named test is infact not a folder; but a virtual file with the contents as below:
    =========================
    From MAILER-DAEMON Fri Aug 6 05:15:46 2004
    Date: 06 Aug 2004 05:15:46 -0800
    From: Mail System Internal Data <MAILER-DAEMON@*************>
    Subject: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA
    X-IMAP: 1091798146 0000000000
    Status: RO

    This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not
    a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software.
    If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created
    with the data reset to initial values.

    =========================

    and hence we cannot create a folder under this.

    But i tried creating a folder inside the INBOX and this was done. again creating a folder inside a file is not possible here too and hence creating a folder under INBOX/test is not possible.

    hope i have helped.

    Right, a folder is created as a file, I saw that too, interestingly enough the INBOx is a directory so it is one of the folders that can have a sub folder....

    My client who uses it often claims it use to not be the case... (as in he could get it to work prior)

    well, exim uses , in all cpanel setups, mailbox, instead of the better option, maildir.

    maibox means everything is stored in ONE BIG FILE. it is a stoopid way of doing things, but we're stuck with it (hink you have 1 gb of emails, it means there's one big file, and everytime you access it, the server must split it so it actually shows multiple emails).

    maildir is sooo much better and faster.
    not to maintion you can make subfolders :)

    Thanks jester.ro !!! Do you know what the implications of changing the exim set up from mail box to maildir? Would that affect other things like forwarding and spam assasin and such?

    When I log in to my webmail account, and use SquirrelMail, I can create folders, but no sub-folders. It doesn't even populate the dropdown with the available folders.

    If I try and use Horde, it does have the option to create a sub folder, but returns the following error message:
    ----
    The folder "folder/subfolder" was not created. This is what the server said: CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox node /home/username/mail/domain.com/Emailaddress/folder/: File exists
    ----

    I found that In Horde to create a directory instead of a file when you "create a folder" is put a trailing "/" after the name. For examples, "subdir" will create a file while "subdir/" will create a directory.

    I searched somewhat more on this issue.That when I create a folder from Squirrel mail then permissions for that folder changed to 600 and ownership also changes to usernmae:username.

    Any Ideas To get subfolders issue DONE ?
