SSH access for a non root user

hello awesome people
i am trying to ssh with a user : tarek instead of root

• I added the user to the wheel group (both from GUI and usermod -aG wheel )
• gave him access to use sudo without a password ( ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL )
• added an ssh key and used the id as his name

I am able to log with the root key normally but with tarek i am getting this error : no supported authentication methods available
i want to login with tarek and sudo ( i will disable ssh with root )
what should i check ?!

I followed this and it works Vultr - ssh key to non root
i also disabled root and tested - works good
