Every Friday, I SFTP the backup folder to my local PC, I've been doing this for 5 or 6 years.
This week, my FTP client was responding with:

FATAL ERROR: No supported authentication methods available (server sent: publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic)

Nothing has changed at my end.

I eventually found in etc/ssh/ssd.conf that the entry for PasswordAuthenication was configured as no.
I reconfigured for yes, and I can now gain ftp access.
I haven't changed this, so what did?

I updated to WHM V90 last weekend, could this be the reason?

I allowed CPanel access for a support ticket earlier in the week.
Could generating an SSH key for Cpanel access cause this?

Did you gave access to the cPanel tech using an SSH key or password? @cPanelLauren might have some insight on the new cPanel version but generally it shouldn't cause this behaviour.

I gave Cpanel access via SSH key.

However, I just ran an experiment.
I created a new SSH key to try for my SFTP download, this doesn't appear to have overwritten sshd.conf and hasn't reverted back to 'no'

Right, it is weird. I do know that if you let their system to configure the SSH key it messes /etc/hosts.allow and deny up but it shouldn't touch the config file so that leave the overnight update causing this....

Oh, that's interesting, so you're saying PasswordAuth was randomly set to no? I've not run into this, or I would assume that my own server would have locked me out, since I use PasswordAuth. Did you make any other changes (no matter how trivial they may seem) besides updating to v90?

I don't recall making any changes.
I connected using password auth as I usually do every Friday.
I updated to v90 over the weekend.
The Friday after, I couldn't connect.

The only thing I did between Monday and Friday was to create an SSH key for Cpanel support access.
In hindsight, I ought to have checked the time stamp on ssd.conf before i modified it to yes, but it was too late by then.

Very odd.
