SSL - cert or no cert is the question

    What is the reason for buying a SSL Cert other than that a company has verified you as a company with ID and so...

    The Tech security is the same if I just create a SSL
    in WHM and sign it myself, simlar to the cpanel installed ssl for whm login.

    or have I missed something.

    The difference is a popup window or not.

    With a certificate from a trusted authority, browsers recognize the authority and accept the certificate. With your own certificate, browsers have no ised who you are and give the visitor a popup asking if they want to accept the certificate or not.

    Hm, yes that is correct, didn't think about that.
    Probably worth having a cert for order pages then...

    YES! Visitors are reluctant to provide sensitive information if they don't at least have some degree of assurance that their data is being transmitted with encryption and the recipients of that data are "who they say they are!"
