For some reason, the SSL (HTTPS) service keeps failing once in a while. Restarting CPanel and Apache won't help either. I had to reboot the server just to get the service running again. This is affecting my business badly.

My server is running Redhat Linux 9 and WHM 8.5.1 cPanel 8.5.3-S3. I changed from Release to Stable because of this but I believe it doesn't stop the problem either.

I browsed through the forum and found a few people also experienced this problem. J. Nick Koston of cPanel, Inc., I would appreciate an answer and solution from you.

Have you submitted a support ticket to cpanel?

SSL will not run for more than a hour . Keeps failing. I can restart it by restarting Apache, but it won't run for long. Have ticket open with CPanel about this.

Also, anytime httpd.conf is changed, apache fails. I have tried everything you can think of to fix this.

Looks like a bug in Cpanel.

I've been having this problem as well for some time on one of our rh 9 machines. I have set up SIM from http://www.rfxnetworks.com to monitor https and restart apache when it dies.. its just a bandaid solution untill i can find the cause of the problem.

To start the SSL, try this command as root in ssh

    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl

If it say its already running, kill the PID

    kill PID#

    Then run again.

    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl

Look at the ssl logs and apache error logs that maybe causing it to crash.

no error. it says that apache was started successfully.

    Code:
    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl: httpd started

Now my SSL is working.. (a few hours later.. I didn't do anything)

this happens constantly... tommorrow it probeably won't be working again.

do you know what would cause this

    cPanel support contacted me...

they said that it could possible be my OpenSSL installation.
    (failing dependencies)

they are going to try to fix it.

    *crossing fingers

If you do not mind, can you post a followup? I am having the same problem across several servers.

    Thanks.

Yes I will... so far it isn't working... stilll.

cPanel is working with me to figure this out.

I noticed a trend when cpsrvd fails it seems that the SSL starts working again.

    pending final resolution...
