SSL Setup for subdomains across accounts

I am trying to setup the following.

I have a master account for example.com. It has cPanel provided SSL cert √

I have user accounts with subdomains of example.com (allowed in tweak settings) so for example user1.example.com √

The cPanel supplied SSL cert for the site at user1.example.com throws a warning in browser.

How can I make this setup work properly?

Along with what the error message is, does the SSL cover the domain that it's installed for?

These seem to be fixed by a reconfiguration of DNS.
