stats - how to access via scripts?

I've seen the scripts for Perl and PHP that create accounts, show packages, etc. and I want to write a similar script that retrieves disk and bandwidth usages.

Could someone point me in the right direction?
I'm an experienced coder. The main thing I need is a description of any APIs, script interfaces, etc.
