Stop users using our SMTP server?

We are looking at reviewing our options on letting our customers use our mail servers for SMTP.

If we wanted to go ahead with blocking customers using our SMTP server, is there any other options apart from having a cronjob running every 5-10 mins to clear out /etc/relayhosts ?

Any suggestions? Any feedback on negativite effects they might have.
