One of my clients is very worried because he has a strange user listed as authenticated. Namely, there is a user listed called "". This of course is not a username, but it is listed as an authenticated user, so my client thinks that my apache installation is insecure. I have assured him otherwise, but I need to figure out what causes this "" to be in the authenticated users list.

Anybody got any ideas as to how this could happen?

I noticed that in AWStats as well. There is one login from "". Does that mean an anon user?

I would be interested to know what is causing it too.

cPanel staff told me it was from people putting http://:@domain.com in the browser. They said that the @ mark causes apache to log the person as an authenticated user.
