Strange issue with MX records in CPanel.

I pointed a domain from one host to another (both cpanel), and since their email was hosted elsewhere, I copied the MX records... Very quickly, I found out that all email to this domain was being rejected, so I pointed the domain back, and everything is fine now.

When I look in CPanel, I see the following records:

10 mx1.thewebhostserver.com
20 mx1.thewebhostserver.com

When I use an online MX record lookup service, I see:

0 presmtp.ex1.secureserver.net

Is it possible that it was overridden in WHM? I can't contact the reseller, because he refuses to respond to my phone calls or emails (the reason I'm transferring the account). Is there any reason why the actual MX records are different than the one shown in CPanel?

Thanks,

Wayne

After changing the MX value on the new host to the value found on the online MX lookup tool, the email worked.. But I'm still curious why the original host's CPanel 'lied' to me.

sounds like a situation where you're getting internal responses that cannot be access via the outside tool. regardless, in cases like this you always want to use the results you get from an external tool because thats the same results everyone else is going to get. check out The ultimate resource and tools site for email delivery /http://www.unlocktheinbox.com.they got some cool free tools for mx records and, if you get to the more advanced stuff, theres tools and wizards for stuff like spf records. pz.

Hello :)

The MX records within a DNS zone should be preserved when copying an account from one cPanel server to another. I was unable to reproduce this problem on a test environment. If you could somehow reproduce this issue again, please contact your web hosting provider and they can submit a ticket with us if it is indeed a flaw with the transfer script.

Thank you.
