    Hi

We have a strong Problem with our CPANEL DNS Cluster.
A Customer call me and say his DNS Entry has changed backward.

In the Log of the DNS Server i've found the following line.....

    Jul 29 00:04:18 ns4 named[13168]: zone xxx-xxx.xx/IN: zone serial has gone backwards
    Jul 29 00:04:19 ns4 named[13168]: zone xxx-xxx.xx/IN: loaded serial 2006060101

Can someone give me a hint why the server is doing that?? :(

There are ~50 Domains that have gone backwards, may on the dns server are over 500
    DNS zones!!

Is there a user with similar problems

    Thanks in advance

    Thomas

I don't have a solution at the moment, but I'm noticing something wierd and similar in my logs too. I have recently got a second server and setup a DNS cluster. Things have been running smoothly for the last few weeks, but I noticed that domains I recently added as add-on domains on the second server seem to be causing problems on the first server.

I'm seeing this kind of thing in the daily server log:

    zone a new domain /IN: loaded serial 2006102501: 4 Time(s)
    zone a new domain /IN: sending notifies (serial 2006102501): 4 Time(s)
    zone a new domain2 /IN: loaded serial 2006102401: 4 Time(s)
    zone a new domain2 /IN: sending notifies (serial 2006102401): 4 Time(s)
    zone a new domain3 /IN: loaded serial 2006102501: 4 Time(s)
    zone a new domain3/IN: sending notifies (serial 2006102501): 4 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102401: 40 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102402: 45 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new accountk/IN: loaded serial 2006102403: 92 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102404: 41 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102405: 6 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102500: 46 Time(s)
zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102501: 36 Time(s)

zone main domain on the new account/IN: loaded serial 2006102505: 39 Time(s)

zone main domain on the new account/IN: zone serial has gone backwards: 224 Time(s)

I'm thinking there is maybe a sync problem between BIND on the 2 servers in the cluster..?

Any advice on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi all,

Sorry, please ignore that last post as I think I have solved my own problem. Using Dnsreport.com to test agreement (or not) on the SOA serial and manually prodding the servers to sync the domains DNS with each other through WHM seems to have resolved the issue.

    Regards,

    Mark
