Subdomain creation and DNS

I am having a problem when users create a new subdomain. It appears that the dns zone file is getting updated with the new subdomain. However, the serial number is not getting incremented. Therefore, the changes are not being pushed to my &real& name servers. It is my understanding that any time a zone file is changed that the serial number is to be implemented.


Any ideas?
